Product Manager, Mutation & Variant Content

The Product Manager will lead the product management function for QIAGEN’s line of mutation and variant content products.  The Product Manager will work closely with key opinion leaders and customers as well as internal experts and stakeholders to define, build, and drive growth of the products within the mutation and variant content portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define content acquisition requirements from available sources including public and private databases as well as literature curation. Work with the content operations and quality engineering teams to ensure data imports and curation protocols reflect content requirements and that data meets expected quality standards.
  • Define delivery requirements and formats for downloadable content offerings. Work with the knowledge systems team to ensure delivered content meets the specified requirements.
  • Define functions and features for QIAGEN’s PGMD database and user interface. Work with the software development team to ensure implementation of functions and features according to specified requirements.
  • Develop the product roadmap and release plan for the products within the mutation and variant content portfolio. Prioritize development activities, monitor and resolve conflicts that arise within the portfolio as well as across other content portfolios.
  • Proactively foster QIAGEN’s relationship with HGMD’s owner and development team at Cardiff University.
  • Work closely with marketing, customer and scientific support and sales to define market strategy and pricing, promote awareness and adoption of products by the market and to drive product sales.
  • Present and discuss QIAGEN’s content initiatives and product offerings in conferences, webinars, user groups, blogs and other forums.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D. in the life sciences with a genetics, genomics or medical background.
  • Bioinformatics or medical informatics experience is a plus, particularly in the areas of human variant analysis or pharmacogenomics.
  • Familiarity with ontologies, especially biomedical ontologies (MeSH, HPO, SNOMED).
  • Familiarity with commonly used public mutation and variant databases (dbSNP, HGMD, PharmGKB, ClinVar).
  • Demonstrated competency in literature curation or data integration is a plus.
  • Informatics or related product management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in a distributed, international environment.
  • Outgoing personality, team player with strong business acumen.  Aptitude and desire to work with both technical and non-technical personnel to build competitive, scientifically sound products.

Senior Software Developer

Design and implement software to analyze massive data sets in an agile environment.  Have passion for writing great, well-segmented code that delivers results.  Our technology is web-service based architecture with Perl, Catalyst, nosql and relational databases (redis, mongodb, mysql) on unix, in the cloud on Amazon, using Ajax, JavaScript and CSS for interfaces.  Added plus if interest in genetics and have technology experience in listed technology.

Scientific Curator, Pharmacogenomics

Join  the Pharmacogenomics team in its manual curation efforts of the scientific literature, for a resource that assists researchers and clinicians in identifying the causal variants behind drug response.  It is the responsibility of the PGMD Scientific Curator to read and extract information from scientific publications describing the phenotypic effects of sequence variation on drug response. The position requires a strong scientific foundation, the ability to understand and summarize complex experimental results and great attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify pharmacogenomic studies that meet BIOBASE’s curation criteria
  • Read and extract pharmacogenomic associations from scientific publications
  • Recognize crucial new data that do not conform to current standards and propose ways to incorporate them
  • Perform QC of curations as necessary to ensure the highest quality of data

REQUIREMENTS

  • MS or PhD in the molecular life sciences with an emphasis on genetics
  • Independent lab-based research experience with supporting publications is preferred
  • Proficiency with the following databases, tools and ontologies is a plus: PubMed, dbSNP, PharmGKB, HGMD, UCSC BLAT, GO, MeSH
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
