Dr. Frank Schacherer
Dr. Frank G. Schacherer holds the position of Chief Operations Officer at Biobase. He joined BIOBASE in 2005 as director of BIOBASE Corporation, the US subsidiary of BIOBASE GmbH.
Dr. Schacherer obtained an M.S, in biochemistry from the Free University of Berlin, and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the Technical University of Braunschweig and the German Research Centre for Biotechnology. His thesis, focusing on a database for signal transduction pathways and simulation of such pathways, led to the development of the TRANSPATH® database at BIOBASE GmbH in 2000.
Before joining BIOBASE, Dr. Schacherer worked as a consultant for database integration projects at SHS information systems and developed the microarray expression and pathway analysis business of Miltenyi Biotech.
Dr. Schacherer joined BIOBASE in 2005 as director of BIOBASE Corporation, the US subsidiary of BIOBASE GmbH, where he led the integration of the Proteome family of databases with the TRANSFAC(R) and TRANSPATH(R) databases. He then headed and developed the Indian subsidiary of BIOBASE. From 2008 to 2010 Dr. Schacherer was responsible for Business Development as Executive Vice President of BIOBASE GmbH.
His areas of responsibility include general managment, product management and marketing, database curation, and research and development.
Dr. Schacherer is a member of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), of Bioinformation Systems e.V., of the BioPathways Consortium and of the BioPAX Consortium.
